What August taught me

I cannot believe today is the last day of August! It is freezing here in Cape Town at the moment - we’ve got snow on mountains and you can feel the chill in the air. The pictures of these flowers were taken up the West Coast the weekend before last. I felt like spring was around the corner (feel very differently today)!

This month has gone quite quickly and I learnt a few lessons along the way:

  • Mark’s coffee in the morning is the perfect start to the day. Sometimes I take a cup outside and while my e-mails are downloading I stand in the garden and just savour the moment. Working from home has really been great and I appreciate that we’ve been able to work remotely.

  • Voice Notes on Whatsapp save so much time. I was still typing out messages like it was 2010 or something. This month I switched to using Voice Notes and it is so quick!

  • Take aways in the car with Mark is my new favourite way of ‘dining out’. We find a spot with a view, get out our cutlery and paper plates and both find this new version of eating out to be so enjoyable.

  • Starting the weekend with dinner cooking on the stove and a glass of wine is my Friday happy vibe! Even though our Lockdown rules are a little more relaxed we are still being careful and while date nights look a little different they are still awesome.

  • Deactivating my Facebook account last week gave me such a sense of calm. In all honesty the reasons weren’t something I wanted to drag onto my website but this is my personal space and I’ll share that the last straw was a few months ago. I’m not the sort of person who will post a nasty retort on FB. I’ll simply walk away grateful that an expired friendship finally ran its course. FB has become a space that doesn’t always bring joy, the negativity and competitiveness plus the fake posts of “friendships” you know are filled with gossip and nastiness. No thanks. I untagged myself out of loads of pics a while ago (made me realise how much time I’d wasted saying yes to someone I should have said no to for many years). Last week I clicked deactivate. It was long overdue.

What about you? What did you learn during August?

xx
