Life lately

If you saw my Insta stories this weekend you’ll have seen we had a hectic couple of days.

What started as a quiet weekend changed dramatically when I had to rush hubby to the ER in the early hours of Sunday morning. He was having hectic heart palpitations and shaking uncontrollably. I knew something was very wrong when he started having difficulty walking and minutes later this progressed into fit-like shaking that kept getting worse. He was admitted to the ER while I sorted out the paperwork and to be honest everything was quite a blur.

I remember sitting in the hospital waiting room thinking to myself that this is what real fear feels like. It isn’t the everyday concerns that can get the best of one or the work stress or the worry over the future. It is sitting in a hospital while your soulmate is ill and not knowing what news you will be hearing. It is the feeling of helplessness, fear and uncertainty and not being able to do anything. I just sat while praying and hoping for the best.

After his first ECG, blood and urine tests and having a drip started, I was allowed in to see hubby. He looked so vulnerable in the hospital bed and I could see his blood pressure readings were extremely high. He had a very high temperaure which indicated an infection The Dr, nurses and staff were amazing and they helped us both feel calmer by keeping us updated on results and explaining the feedback. At 03h00 hubby had a second ECG and this plus the blood and urine tests were ok. Hubby needed to get an ultrasound to rule out kidney stones but he was discharged and we could go home.

On Monday the ultrasound came back clear and it seems this rollercoaster few days were the result of a bad viral infection. This caused hubby’s temperature to spike and then the palpitations and shaking to begin. It was his body’s way of saying something is wrong. Apart from being very tired, he is thankfully on the mend - the drip and medications seem to be working.

Hubby and are filled with gratitude for all the messages and Whatsapps and kind words. Thank you to everyone who reached out, kept us in their prayers and thoughts. We really appreciate it.
