December 2024

The festive time of year has been my favourite for as long as I can remember. Getting ready for Christmas, decorating the house, and winding down with festive movies and good food - bliss!

Last December was a bit different. I didn’t get around to putting the tree up and unpacking the decorations until much later in the month. Hubby had to go overseas for a work trip at the beginning of December. Usually I would have worked from home that week but had a work function I couldn’t miss. I wasn’t keen on the 2 hour drive on my own so I booked into an airbnb close to the office.

When hubby returned he had picked something up while travelling (which I caught). So we had a really hectic flu virus for most of the month :(

Feeling ill with zero energy and an awful cough plus working through the festive season has not been a walk in the park. I was late in decorating the house, late in buying presents (thank goodness for online shopping) and felt like my favourite holiday was flying by without me!

Thankfully the public holidays and weekends could be used to relax and soak up the special season.

We had a wonderful Christmas day and were finally feeling better so it was a great day. Ate mince pies for breakfast, watched Christmas movies, hubby made us a delicious lunch and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day.

Then over the weekend we had Christmas part 2 with my in-laws which was lovely.

So while last month the festive season was different and I felt disorganized and exhausted some of the time, it was still a good Christmas. Working through the festive season has meant really appreciating the days off, and saving leave days for next year. Also didn’t overspend (was too busy working) and it is nice starting January with something extra (which will be handy as I’m redecorating my study). Quite excited to get started on this project.

How was your festive season?
