My word for 2025
Since 2017 I’ve made a habit of selecting a word for the year. The intention is to incorporate the word into everyday life as best as I can. Sometimes it isn’t possible to make the word a constant priority and it is then that it serves as a reminder that an area of my life needs to be focused on.

my word for 2025 is balance
For me, this is a big one as 2024 highlighted the importance of establishing (and practicing) a healthy work/life balance. Lots of overtime on top of busy days meant eating badly (lets face it a convenience meal or a take away saves time). Not exercising for alot of the year because of lack of time and energy. Poor sleep thanks to stress and being on my phone way too much.
All this led to the inability to “switch off” and simply relaxing and being mindful felt impossible.
Last year I picked up everything from Covid to energy draining colds and flu. I also had to have a colonoscopy after months of feeling awful (will spare everyone on those details)!
So finding and keeping that elusive balance is a necessary priority for me this year. I’d love to say I’ve started January 2025 making my word a daily practice but this month has been a busy one. Sometimes logging on after hours means a smoother start to work the following morning. Instead of feeling annoyed at myself, I’m addressing this by being aware of the time worked after hours and trying to finish on time more often. Also taking a lunch break can make a big difference to the day. On weekends I’m trying to spend time consciously slowing down. Soaking things up rather than rushing. And finally I’m trying to limit screen time and use that time to read a book or journal.
