My new early morning routine
At the beginning of 2024 I was in an awesome fitness routine - working out daily and feeling great.
Then we got Covid and the tiredness was no joke. As the months went by I tried to get back into a exercise routine but it was a huge effort. I found myself making excuses and battling to find the time to do a 30 minute run. I blamed the weather. My energy levels. Work stress.
At the beginning of November I simply had enough of feeling SO tired. And something shifted in my mindset. I set the alarm to go off super early and started working out before the work day. I managed 3 workouts that week (including the weekend). Another 3 workouts the next week. Last Saturday I ran 5km and was exhausted but in such a good way.
Getting up early and doing a workout is 30 minutes of me-time. The day can wait. E-mails, deadlines and phone calls will still be there when the work day starts. After my workout, I have a shower, get dressed, brush my hair and prepare for the day.
While sipping my first cup of coffee I check e-mails and launch myself into the work day. I’ve found that on days I prioritise exercise I am so much more productive. I drink more water. I feel better and more motivated to make healthy food choices than on days I press snooze and skip the workout.
Something I seriously love about my early morning sessions is that while it isn’t easy, the effort is worth it. Once I’m fresh out the shower and feeling accomplished, I know that nothing the day brings can take my 1 hour of self care away. Work can be super busy with numerous deadlines causing stress…..but I’ve got my workout ticked off my personal to-do list. I’ve gotten to prioritise my health and well being and it feels amazing.
Do you have a favourite time of day to do a workout?
