Bookworm confessions

It is extremely cold in Cape Town at the moment - lots of rain and it hailed last week. Perfect weather for curling up with a book and a cup of tea.

I haven’t done a humpday confessions post in a while and thought I’d tie in one with a book theme.

I’m a dreadful book lender. It isn’t that I’m selfish but lets be honest books cost money and often you’ll have a few special books that have sentimental value. I could write a book (no pun intended) on the times I’ve lent a book (or books) and:

a) never see them again

b) have them lent on i.e “you’ll get it back when my friend is finished reading it”.

c) get them back looking decidedly worse for wear.

It just isn’t worth the stress. I lend to an aunt of mine (who lends me books) and she literally returns everything looking brand new. So unless you are my Dad’s eldest sister, please don’t ask about my book collection.

I only joined Goodreads a few years ago and have no idea what took me so long. It is AWESOME.

If a book is great I’ll always watch the movie BUT I am one of those readers who WILL say repeatedly throughout the film “That was different in the book”. Before Lockdown when going to the movies was the norm, I was not the sort of person you’d take to the cinema to watch any film that was once a book.

Bookclubs sound like fun but I’ve never joined one. The closest I get is the monthly link up hosted by https://www.lifeaccordingtosteph.com/ and http://janasays.com/where we can post about what we’ve read the previous month. It is alot of fun. And I don’t have to put on clothes or do my hair to go anywhere.

I can sip my wine as I type up my reviews and it is bliss (plus one month I only read one book and nobody judged me).

It is a warm and welcoming online space.

It took me over 3 decades before I was able to master the art of NOT finishing a book that I’m not enjoying. Learning how to put a book down without finishing it was groundbreaking.

What about you? Any interesting book confessions?
