Lockdown lessons 3
As the 3 month mark of being in lockdown approaches, I find myself continuing to realise and learn new things. If ever there was a time to give ourselves some kindness and understanding this is it! So next time you are hard on yourself, just remember that it is okay to:
Wake up with a long list of good intentions. And tick hardly any off before dinnertime. Tomorrow is another day.
Re. above it is okay to write coffee on your to-do list and then proceed to tick if off multiple times.
To have days where you nail your fitness goals. Eat healthily. Put clothes on. And some time days when you just don’t do any of this.
To miss family and good friends and feel very sad as the months go by without seeing them.
To not miss certain aspects of your old life. Prioritising those who only know how to take. People that enjoy drama. And saying yes when I wanted to say no is on my list.
To reminisce about certain things about your life pre-pandemic. Regular everyday things that you didn’t give much thought to. We used to love eating out and haven’t in 3 months. Haven’t seen family. Haven’t travelled or done anything away from home apart from go to the supermarket for essentials. It is okay to miss random things from a latte in your favourite coffee shop to making a reservation instead of dinner.
For some days to be fine as you get used to 'the new normal’ and to have some days where you wonder how long everyday life will consist of masks, sanitiser and worry. It is okay to feel scared. To get nervous when going out.
If online shopping has replaced ‘normal’ shopping. And to not miss going to the mall. But to miss your favourite stationery shop or bookstore.
If some days as you walk around in your pajamas in the afternoon, eating biscuits out the box, to have a weird sense of “how on earth did I get here?” Considering 3 months ago getting dressed in the morning, putting make up on and going to work was normal. I sometimes wonder if I’ll know how to put together a matching outdoors outfit in future. If I’ll remember how to walk in heels. As I type this I’m currently wearing a summer pants, a thermal spencer and winter zip up jacket. As I brush biscuit crumbs off my top I realise I don’t think these socks are mine and one is inside out.
But that is okay.
