What I read in December 2021
I read 2 books in December and made my Goodreads goal of 30 books for the year.
Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
It has been a while since I read a Shopaholic book - it is a fun series I started reading over a decade ago.
Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood has been asked to host Christmas. The pressure is on as she tries to keep everyone happy with their many requests. The turkey, as well as the vegan turkey, the various dishes and decorations - the list is endless. Then the presents which is stressing her out as she cannot find anything for Luke and her daughter Minnie wants a very particular hamper for Christmas.
To add to Becky’s woes an ex-boyfriend and his girlfriend rock up and have unknown intentions.
The book is a fun read, the lengths Becky goes to for Luke’s gift, the rush for the elusive must-have Christmas decoration of the year and the hamper Minnie asks for all makes for a light hearted and humorous read. It was the perfect book to read in December when I was on leave and looking forward to Christmas.
The House Swap by Rebecca Fleet
Caroline and her husband Francis have arrived for a much needed holiday and swapped houses with a stranger. After what they have been through they need this vacation to reconnect as a couple.
When Caroline and Francis look around the house they realise while it is furnished, it is stark and empty of personal belongings. There is nothing that might tell them about the homeowner. Then strange things start happening, Caroline finds flowers in the bathroom that bring back hidden memories. Music left in a CD player and aftershave that belonged to someone from her past. Caroline knows something isn’t right. And now this person who is doing this, someone she used to know is in her house and wants to make sure she knows it.
I worked out what was happening pretty quickly in the book and where it was going. The chapters jump from present to past and are told from the views of Caroline, Francis and the person who is involved in their house swap. It wasn’t my favourite book of the year but maybe because I guessed alot of it early.
