Christmas 2021
We celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary just over a week ago and we spent some time in Hermanus. It was wonderful to be on leave and we made the most of each day. Visited De Hoop Nature Reserve as well as Rooi Els a couple of times. Had cheese and wine on the balcony in the apartment we stayed in and then loads of braai’s for dinner most evenings.
It was a stunning getaway and I mentioned online that we do Christmas our way which is the two of us having a relaxed day, preparing Christmas lunch, then enjoying it later in the day. Before we were married we used to do three Christmas get togethers in under 24 hours and the driving around in the heat and trying to see everyone meant the day disappeared in a rush. We used to end Christmas exhausted and agreed once we were married we’d make our own tradition.
Christmas Day we phoned our families early to wish them. Then we went out to get a take away coffee and breakfast and enjoyed it in the car by Sievers Point.
Went for a slow drive and then started prepping for Christmas lunch.
I had packed in our festive mugs and plates as well as decorations for the table. Yes, I do travel with decor.
Hubby made gammon and roast potatoes and I poured us drinks and set the table. The veggies needed minimal prep and we had a great time enjoying Christmas and taking it easy.
Hubby’s gammon and roast potatoes were out of this world. We chose a difference glaze for the gammon and have a new favourite. Had a late lunch and enjoyed our festive table.
Dessert was easy - we chose a swiss roll trifle and mince pies at Woolies. I do want to make a trifle some day but this was quick, easy and extremely delicious.
We relaxed on the balcony afterwards and it was a wonderful Christmas. We were fortunate with the weather in Hermanus, it wasn’t too hot, just the perfect temperature. We stayed a few days after Christmas and it was a lovely getaway.
