What I read in October
I read 3 books in October - all re-reads from years ago (still haven’t been in a bookshop since March).
Life Swap by Jane Green
The plot: Vicki and Amber are two women who have never met but enter into a 2 week life swap (that the magazine Vicki works for is running). Both will step into the other woman’s shoes (literally) to see if the grass is greener on the other side.
What I thought: This was an enjoyable book but predictable in parts. Vicki and Amber couldn’t be more different but both feel that their lives are missing something. They soon realise that often things are not as they seem. I found Amber to be my least favourite character - obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses then complaining how shallow they were. It was a cycle that quickly became tedius.
My goodreads rating: 3 stars.
Birthday Girls by Annabel Giles
The plot: 6 Milestone birthdays for 6 characters. Scarlett (10), Della (21), Sophie (30), Jessica (40), Millicent (50) and Constance (60).
What I thought: This was an entertaining read with each character getting a few chapters to give insight to their latest birthday. Many of the characters are related, for instance Della is Millicent’s daughter. Scarlet, Sophie, Jessica and Constance are all family. Since each are in each others lives readers get different perspectives to events throughout the book. Most of the characters are not very likable - extremely self absorbed and selfish. My favourite character was Millicent who despite having a difficult life and suffering a recent tragedy stays true to herself.
My Goodreads rating: 4 stars
The House of new beginnings by Lucy diamond
The plot: Georgie has followed her boyfriend to Brighton so he can pursue his career dream. Rosa has run away to nurse a broken heart and Maggie has suffered a devastating loss before her marriage ended. All tenants at the same apartment building, they quickly get to know each other and new friendships are formed.
What I thought: I’m a huge fan of Lucy Diamond and her books are enjoyable and entertaining. This was no exception and the perfect way read while I recovered after an op last month.
My Goodreads rating: 4 stars
