What I read in May 2022

I read 2 books in May and loved both SO much.

THE FRIEND BY DOROTHY KOOMSON

Cece Solarin has just moved her family to Brighton for her husband Sol’s new job. She befriends Maxie, Anaya and Hazel who are three mothers at her children’s new school.

It isn’t long before Cece discovers that all three women were friends with Yvonne another mother at the school. Yvonne is in a coma after an attempted murder and had been found on the school grounds.

And Maxie, Anaya and Hazel are all suspects.

Cece starts to investigate and finds out that all three women had secrets which Yvonne knew. Secrets that would have changed her friend’s lives forever. Each woman had a powerful motive…but which of them were pushed to the edge?

I could not put this book down! It is a story that drew me in and kept me guessing. Did not see alot of the twists and turns - highly recommend it!

THE HOUSE ON FRIPP ISLAND BY REBECCA KAUFFMAN

When Scott and Lisa Daly win a trip to Fripp Island in South Carolina they ask Lisa’s childhood friend Poppy and her family to join.

Scott and Lisa are wealthy and very comfortable on the beautiful island. For Poppy and John an all-expenses-paid-vacation is not something Poppy feels she could turn down. While they grew up together Lisa and Poppy’s lifestyles as adults are very different. The phrase “you cannot buy happiness” is evident from the beginning of the book.

It is soon very clear that everyone has brought secrets with them to the island. Changing what should be a relaxing holiday mood to a different one entirely. Told from various characters points of view, the book is full of underlying currents and hidden secrets.

I don’t want to give alot away but the prologue makes it clear that this is a holiday that will end in a disaster.

The writing is so beautiful and descriptive I felt like I was on the beach soaking up the heat throughout the chapters. The epilogue is something I have read and re-read and wow……this is one of those books that will stay with a person long after reading.

Linking up with Steph and Jana who have hosted this fabulous link up for many years. This month is the last one and I’m grateful to have joined in monthly for the last few years and enjoyed their awesome version of an online book club.
