What I read in July and August 2022

July was a great month - I loved our holiday and taking some much needed leave. I finished 3 books and all were enjoyable. August I just read one book - it was a month that flew so quickly!

SUCH A QUIET PLACE BY MEGAN MIRANDA

Hollow’s Edge is a neighbourhood where everyone knows their neighbours and has their back. Then one night Brandon and Fiona Truett are found dead.

Ruby Fletcher was convicted of their murder but two years later she is back. Nobody wants her there - including her old housemate Harper Nash. Soon unsettling events take place and it is very clear that on the night the Truetts died not all neighbours were honest.

This book kept me guessing throughout the chapters - quite a page turner.

ABOUT US by SINEAD MORIARTY

This book is told by 3 women who all see the same therapist. Alice and her husband Niall are drifting apart and don’t have much time for themselves.

Ann’s husband Ken is nearing retirement and she is taking a long look at things and wondering if she should be more adventurous.

Orla is falling in love with her boyfriend Paul but she has a complicated past and doesn’t know how to share this with him.

A bit predictable in parts and I found the ending to be a bit sudden.

THE BEACH CAFE BY LUCY DIAMOND

Evie has always had dreams but not much has worked out for her. She is stuck temping and about to start studying a course her heart isn’t in.

When Evie inherits her Aunt’s beach cafe in Cornwall Evie is determined to make a success of it.

But it isn’t smooth sailing while dramas arise and Evie has some big decisions to make. Regarding both her work and love.

Another lovely read by Lucy Diamond.

Again Rachel by Marian Keyes

I read “Rachel’s Holiday” many years ago and was thrilled when Marian Keyes wrote a sequel - Rachel was always my favourite character in the Walsh family. Now Rachel is back and in her 40’s.

She thought her life was settled, great job, lovely dog, new hobbies including gardening. Then one day a man she once loved reappears with no warning and Rachel is forced to question the past few years.

Difficult to give a review without spoiling alot of the book!

Rachel is very different to the person she was in the first book, she has gone through so much and had some serious heartache. I couldn’t put the book down, just had to see what would happen to Rachel next. Another lovely book by Marian Keyes.
