How to soak up a season

Hello October!

September went so quickly and the weather has been keeping us in suspense. Cold weather and rain, then warmer weather - spring feels like it is on the way - then cooler days again. And a bit more rain. Then sunshine! Each day has been a surprise!

I enjoyed this winter even though it was a very cold one. For years I’ve always favoured the warmer months but this winter I really made the most of it and didn’t wish the chilly months away. Instead I embraced the cold months with open arms. The moment you soak up a season instead of wanting a different one, things definitely shift.

I lit my favourite candles, soaked in warm bubble baths and read under my favourite blanket. Yes there were weekends where it poured down but we spent time in Port Owen at a restaurant with a stunning fireplace and it made for such cosy breakfasts and lunches. We visited Hermanus and De Hoop Nature Reserve for hubby’s birthday bundled up in layers of winter clothes. The weather did not stop us having fun and I didn’t yearn for warmer days.

Instead I practiced gratitude for things that are extra enjoyable in chilly weather. Coffee in bed is extra special in cold weather. My winter gown and pajamas which get more and more comfy the older and more faded they get! Cosy evenings with comfort food.

Going for a run in the winter sunshine on a windless day makes outdoor exercise more enjoyable for me.

And then seeing the first wild flowers in spring is always a sign that warmer weather is around the corner. It was a reminder that no season lasts forever and that is why soaking each one up is so important.

Do you have a favourite season?
