Counting blessings
Happy Friday!
As I type this in my lunch hour, I’ve got winter sun coming in through the kitchen windows, a load of laundry finishing up and the weekend a few hours away.
We should have been up the Garden Route about to check into our favourite B&B as we celebrate Mark’s birthday. His birthday is next week and we planned to make an extended weekend of it, drive up and spend some time in a beautiful place, visiting our favourite restaurants and chilling out.
Of course with Lockdown there is no travel taking place and we had to cancel our plans like so many other people all over the world.
A habit I started many years ago was a gratitude journal where I’d list things that I was grateful for. I know some people write in theirs daily - I write in mine 2 -3 times a week and I find it keeps me aware of what I am fortunate to enjoy and reminds me to practice gratitude.
So my list today in no particular order is:
Sun is shining. We had some really cold temperatures recently but the last week or so has been filled with sun and warmer temperatures.
A busy week is drawing to a close and the weekend is approximately 2.5 hours away.
3 day weekend - I still took a days leave and will make the most of Mark’s special day.
All my online orders arrived this week. Presents for Mark, his birthday cake cups and milk tarts, stationery and a new book for me plus some frozen meals we ordered - cannot wait for a delicious butter chicken tonight.
Mark enjoying his macro photography. I love seeing the detail of the jumping spiders he photographs and he’s added to his portfolio and now has a macro gallery https://markbooysen.com/macro
Clean and tidy home, being on top of the laundry, also tackled the main bathroom cupboard this week so everything feels super organised.
Weekly grocery shopping done a day early.
Fresh, crisp bed linen.
Coffee. The way that first cup tastes (especially in winter).
Finding the most adorable wrapping paper for Mark’s presents. It has birds on it and I cannot wait to give him his pressies in such cool paper! I swear I get as excited for his birthday as I do for my own!
Better get back to work for a few more hours and then get my 3 day weekend started. There is cake calling my name and a birthday weekend to start celebrating with my love.
xx
